Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed on Tuesday said the Indian High Commission in Singapore was in constant touch with the authorities there to ascertain facts about the riots that broke out on Sunday night in the Little India area of the city, following the death of an Indian worker in an accident.
Appealing for calm in the area, the Minister told The Hindu that the Singapore government had been urged to provide appropriate medical assistance to the Indians injured in the incident.
Twenty-four Indians were arrested by the police and produced before the court in connection with the incident., which was one of the worst riots witnessed in many years in Singapore.
