In Rajasthan, sarpanches go into hiding

February 24, 2015 11:31 pm | Updated 11:31 pm IST - JAIPUR:

With the police in Rajasthan's Dausa district unearthing a major scam in fake mark sheets and transfer certificates issued to contestants of the recent Panchayat polls to evade the minimum qualifications norm, several sarpanches are likely to lose their membership and can even face arrest. Some sarpanches are said to have gone underground after two persons were arrested.

SP Anshuman Bhomiya said the two admitted to have issued more than 200 transfer certificates to candidates for the posts of Sarpanch and panchayat samiti membership. Twenty-seven of these candidates were elected sarpanch, 15 in the district alone.
