Important deposition, says Congress

The Congress on Friday reacted cautiously to the deposition of IPS officer Anju Gupta before a CBI court in Rae Bareli on Friday in connection with the demolition of the Babri Masjid, saying it would wait for the final court verdict.

“We will not give our verdict. Let us wait for the court ruling,” party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.

“It is a serious and important deposition but we must be cautious,” he said. People held the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders guilty of the crime 18 years ago and now the judicial system would hold them guilty. Whatever shown on television and written in newspapers on the demolition was now being given a legal finality.

Mr. Singhvi said it was time senior BJP leaders were held guilty and prosecuted.
