Former Union Law Minister and senior advocate Ram Jethmalani has urged the Election Commission to direct the Government of India to disclose the names of Lok Sabha poll candidates whose names figure in the list of persons who have stashed away black money in foreign banks.

In a letter written to Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, Mr. Jethmalani said a couple of days ago, the Supreme Court dismissed the Centre’s application to recall the order directing the government to disclose the names of persons who stashed away black money abroad as per the list furnished by German banks. He said: “If the names available with the government are of persons who are candidates in elections or their benami holders or cronies or in any other manner conspirators, the fact must be known to the voters. The fact that the names are not being disclosed despite the apex court order shows that the names are of aspiring candidates or their kith and kin or their cronies and benamidaars. Besides, it is very likely that some of those are of bureaucrats who are assisting corrupt politicians.”
