In a veiled warning to the Centre, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that she would wait for a few days for her demand of a three-year moratorium on loan repayment to be accepted after which she would decide her future course of action.
“I will wait for a few days, I hope the issue will be sorted out. In a democracy, talks are always good. I am waiting for last 11 months for the solution,” she said after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“During the last 11 months, I have met the Prime Minister 10 times and the Finance Minister 20 times. I will wait for a few days, after that I will decide politically what can be done for my State,” she said, indicating unhappiness at the lack of proper response to her demand. When it was pointed out that there was a problem in granting a moratorium, she said: “What is digestible to me is not digestible to the Finance Minister. The food which is digestible to my people is digestible to me. Whatever will be done, I will wait for few days.”

What's the big deal? The solution is obvious. Buy peace. Agree to the demands of Didi. This is not an unfamiliar course of action for the Congress. After all, whats a few thousands of crores between allies? Especially if it lets you cling on to power. Fear other states shall also demanding the same preferential treatment? No problem extend it to all those who shall support the UPA. This will be a lesson to the other lesser mortals to fall in line. Live like there is no tomorrow.
This woman does not deserve our money. The rest of the country has to pay for this. Our taxes that go to the Centre will go to her. Should this happen?
Let us assume for a moment that it does. No lender gives money without conditions. When IMF and World Bank lend to India we have to agree to strict conditions. In such a situation, our conditions should be a) strict monitoring of funds. Every voucher that is generated for payment should be put on the Internet. b) target based funding. If she says poor have to be helped, let the money go directly to their accounts via Aadhar which she has to implement. c) All infrastructure that is being built will have to have photos on the Internet as it is being built. d) All the goons of TMC who terrorize tenants, insult women should be put into jail. However, this is wishful thinking. If indeed this lady and allegedly Bengal has to be given funds then the rest of the country should have a vote in this. My vote is NO. Yours ?
Oh! please Mamata, withdraw the support for the Government. And lets hope that the people of India give better mandate and throw people like you out of Parliament so that the Government can be on its feet and come out of the policy paralysis.
People of Bengal have caused too much misery to rest of India by electing candidates of this lady and sending the economy of India down the drain by black mailing the Government on every issue.
No other CM of the states knows better than Ms.Mamata,as to how to strike a chord for tackling the govt at an opportune time, for getting its due. But,what is different is,that her demands are devoid of any request mode, but would be as a right of her's.Whatever it might be,her efforts to ensure her state being showered with what it deserved in terms of financial aid for its development, are really appreciated.Really, she is a woman with substance.Had such qualities are emulated by the CM of A.P,it would augur well for the benefit of the state,as well as its people.
Mamata Bannerjee should learn how politics work, she cannot demand
everything and get everything. We have not yet forgotten the Dinesh
Trivedi issue who lost his post for doing good for the people. Now
asking for favoritism to her state. As one party ruling seems a distant
reality in near future, this demand-and-get attitude by the regional
parties will damage the integrity of the nation.
