Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured a group of OBC MPs that he would take up with the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar the setting up of a Parliamentary Committee for OBCs to monitor the effective implementation of reservation for OBCs by government departments and educational institutions.

He conveyed this to a group of MPs, led by convener of the Parliamentary Forum of OBC MPs, V. Hanumantha Rao, when they submitted a memorandum to him here on Thursday. As many as 43 MPs, belonging to both Houses of Parliament, have signed the memorandum.

Mr. Rao said that as per government statistics, nearly 20 ministries/departments had not given opportunities for OBCs in Group A posts as on January 1, 2006.

In many departments, the implementation of reservation to OBCs was not done in true spirit.
