The changing political climate in Bihar and in the country at large, political intervention is the need of the hour, filmmaker Prakash Jha, the Janata Dal (United)’s candidate from the West Champaran constituency, said on Wednesday.
“Earlier, I had said I won’t contest, but looking at the situation was changing in Bihar to in a way that I felt political intervention had become a need. The country is also in a state of flux. Capitalistic forces trying to grab power. Such parties, namely the Bharatiya Janata Party, have invested heavily in this election and will be sure to recover it all after the polls,” Mr. Jha told reporters in Patna.
This is the ‘Raajneeti’ director’s third attempt at electoral politics. He contested from the same seat in 2009 on a Lok Janshakti Party ticket. He had also unsuccessfully contested the 2004 Lok Sabha polls as an independent from Bettiah (the seat is called West Champaran after delimitation).
