External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, who arrived here on Wednesday for talks, said his task was to communicate New Delhi’s concerns to Islamabad, based on details provided by Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley and other evidence gathered by India in the 26/11 case.

On Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed, Mr. Krishna said India had time and again communicated to Pakistan its concern over his anti-India speeches.

“He has been constantly making statements which provoke the people of Pakistan against India. We have drawn the attention of the Government of Pakistan that such tirades against India will not smoothen relations.’’

The Headley-related remarks have triggered a debate in Pakistan. Many strategic analysts questioned their timing.

“What was the need to underscore this now and so publicly when this information has been with India when the Home Minister was here just a fortnight ago’’ is the general refrain.
