Two days ahead of Republic Day, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday seized a huge cache of arms and explosives, including 10 kg of RDX and 100 grenades, in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, foiling the designs of militants to carry out terror attacks.
Acting on a specific information, police raided Cheek-e- Mamoosa, 32 kms from here, and seized the cache, a police spokesman told PTI.
He said the arms and explosives were to be smuggled to Srinagar for carrying out subversive activities.
The arms haul included 51 automatic grenade launchers, 57 grenades, 42 under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) grenades, two anti—personnel mines, 30 electronic detonators and 10 kg of RDX, the spokesman said.
The police also found one machine gun, four wireless sets, 28 electric circuits, 13 mortar shells, 32 improvised circuits, four charger boxes and 2100 rounds of AK rifles.
However, no arrests have been made during the raid.
The spokesman said the recovery of such a big cache of arms, ammunition and explosive averted a major disaster as the militants had planned to carry out blasts in the city and elsewhere in the valley ahead of or during the Republic Day celebrations.
