CPI(M) threatened to disrupt Parliament unless Trinamool leader Sudip Bandopadhyay apologises for shouting at its member when he sought an explanation on reports about alleged arms deal involving minister Shishir Adhikari.

“Apologise, otherwise the House will not function,” CPI(M) leader in Lok Sabha, Basudev Acharia threatened.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for over three hours on Tuesday when the entire opposition demanded an apology from the Trinamool Chief Whip for “hurling expletives” at Mr. Acharia during a discussion on the Mumbai suburban railway motormen’s strike.

Mr. Acharia alleged that whenever CPI(M) members speak, the Trinamool MPs disrupt proceedings.

“Whenever we try to say something, they start shouting and interrupt. They are doing this from the beginning,” the CPI(M) MP from West Bengal’s Bankura told reporters.

He said the CPI(M) MPs will request Speaker Meira Kumar to ask Mr. Bandopadhyay to apologise.

Mr. Acharia said on Tuesday he had been in the House for 30 years but had “never seen such behaviour. In fact, I never expected such behaviour when Mr. Bandopadhyay moved forward menacingly.”

The CPI(M) MPs, who are members of the Central Committee, went to Lok Sabha in the morning after attending the meeting of CC for a brief period in the morning. Besides Mr. Acharia, Kerala MP P. Karunakaran is a Central Committee member.
