Relenting a bit, BJP on Sunday agreed to allow a discussion on Coalgate provided Government cancelled coal licences and ordered an independent probe into the allotments.
However, the party made it clear that it will stick to its demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation on the issue.
BJP, which has disrupted Parliament for most part of the Monsoon session insisting that it will not allow the two Houses to run if the Prime Minister does not step down, toned down a little.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said when Sonia Gandhi spoke to her, she had made it clear that coal block allocations must be cancelled and an independent probe ordered.
“I told Soniaji that coal block allocations be cancelled and an independent and fair probe ordered. “If you agree to both these demands, then we can start the discussion and Parliament can function,” Ms. Swaraj said.
Ms. Swaraj’s comments came against the backdrop of BJP facing isolation with several parties including the Left, Samajwadi Party, TDP and some others insisting that Parliament be allowed to function and the issued debated. NDA’s key ally JD(U) also is keen that Parliament functions so that the Government can be “exposed” on the coal scam.
The BJP leader sought to scotch speculation that the party has gone back on its demand for PM’s resignation.
“We have not backtracked on Prime Minister’s resignation. We stick to our demand that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh should resign accepting moral responsibility in the coal block allocation scam,” Ms. Swaraj said.

The way BJP is conduct in Parliament make one to feel they have amnesia and thinking they are still ruling the country. They are the opposition and rejected to form the GOVT twice by people. They should accept that HARD FACT and behave like that
The verbal duel kindles fond hopes in the minds of the main opposition party that the prime minister is ‘finished’ as a consequence of his alleged involvement in the coalgate. The Prime Minister’s hands are full with ‘unfinished’ tasks which enjoin upon him the responsibility of continuing to remain in the chair bearing even the unbearable pricks. However much the coming events cast their shadow, he will be the one and only prime minister of India who will go down in history with his crest fallen for no fault of his own.
Coal licenses can't be cancelled now since they made lot of money. Customs if vigilant will unearth surprises. BJP will probably get some crumbs thrown at them, and eventually Coalgate will also come to pass, like so many others! Perhaps this is progress?
This is a political move. We want an ethical solution to the consequences of the past
misdeeds.
In desperation, they may be writing own obitury.
We need an effective opposition.BJP has failed. They are frusterated lot devoid of any ideas. All they can do is to play politics at the cost of nation. When they can enjoy more privilages and perks without being accountable why should they not coduct in manner that they occupy oppostion benches for ever. That alone can explain their conduct.today we are at the brink of disaster , who cares , so long as they their seates are reserved..With each passing day their behaviour will become worst. And,commonman will keep suffering.Kindly have a look at the appearance of these so called leaders, over fed and prosperous by themselves ,can they claim to be massiha of poor comman man.Ruling party is happy, so long as they cotinue to loot the nation, and keep enjoying the tamasha
Sushmaji, is setting a bad precedent for future opposition leaders.
If BJP comes to power, future opposition would do the same and prevent parliament
from functioning till xxxxxx conditions are met.
This is not fair politics and Yeddurappa did the same to BJP government in
Karnataka. BJP has not matured as a political party, even after being in power at the
centre for a full five years and 13days. Vajpayee is credited with running a successful
coalition at the centre, managing Mamata Banerjee, Jayalalitha and Sushma Swaraj.
LK Advani was breathing on his neck all the time. He did manage to cling on to
power with the help of dravidian parties, ditching Rama in the process. The half
asleep prime minister allowed infiltrators in to Kargil and right into New Delhi, and
couldn't cross an inch in to Pakistan, and let Pakistan off the nuclear hook.
Governance is not about threats and counter threats. One should be able to assess a
situation from a global point of view, and not cater to own.
The BJP is sure of improving its position in the parliament if there is a mid-term election,
while it's supporting parties are not and hence the former's stubborn stance in the parliament
on the resignation of the PM demanded by it with its supporters dithering. Luck seems to be
on the side of the Congress party. Besides the government has the media largely on its side.
So it will plod on.
It is a matter of joy that good senses have prevailed upon a part of
the opposition parties (Samajwadi Party,Left Parties etc) who staged dharna
& demanded that the session of the Parliament be allowed to continue
so that the Coalgate scandal can be debated & they also demanded to
cancel all the allocation of coal blocks. Now isolated BJP is also
demanding the same.BJP & Congress are both sides of the same coin and
both are involved in this scandal & other scandal also.To conseal
their sin they are making noise in the Parliament. Today the problem
with the people of India is inspite of their relutance they have to
cast their vote in favour of either of the parties/groups.It is high
time for a better alternative so that our motherland is not looted by
these BJP(NDA) or Congress(UPA) & any Foreign ruler like Nadir
Shah,British or America.
If the Government Scraps the Coal Licences, there is no problem for the consumer, who can import the same from other countries. Only the Government will suffer and the Politicians and Babus who have been the beneficiaries of price and other kickbacks enjoyed by them since the time of British, will not be able to divert any funds to their kitty.
For seven days now the Parliament ahd been stalled; nothing more in
terms fo damage would be caused whether the Parliament functions for
another six days or not. What a dangerous way we are operating our
parliamentary democracy. The souls of those who crafted the constitutions
debating ably over months would scream in disgust at the way their
successive generation political parties are behaving. The ruling party
cannot abosolve themselves of the blame for this situation.
the policy followed by BJP towards the CAG Report on coal fields
allocation to Private Firms for low price and thereby cost a loss
RS.1.86 lakh Crore to exchequer is Right. but it should follow the
policy like 2G Spectrum following discussion through Joint
Parliament committee and followed CBI Investigation and the
Telecom Minister A.RAJA and Dayanithi Maran resigned from their
posts.likewise the same policy should be followed to bring
reality in the move.Auditing department cannot be blamed saying
error followed. The BJP is longing to come to power for a
longtime from FDI Multi Brand Retail and the Parliament was also
not allowed to function nearly seven days and also in many
policies like Lokpal Bill, forming LOKAYUKTHA ALL OVER THE NATION
WITH FOLLOWED EQUAL LAWS TO ADOPT in functioning. also for the
action of 2G SPECTRUM THE BJP MADE AGITATION AND MADE THE
PARLIAMENT NOT TO TO RUN FOR TWO WEEKS.THIS IS A COMMON POLICY
FOLLOWED BY BJP .
Excellent photograph! With photographers like this you can save on caricaturists and
cartoonists.
There are people who are not bothered about the scandals, scams are corruptions done by congress. It is high time to expose the scams, scandals and corruptions done by congress. In fact congress has looted the country under the leadership of Manmohan singh.
The best thing happening in our country is people are being mocked by these issues without even letting them know the exact position or the truth about the issues..The one thing which surprises a lot is CAG.!!where does it had its function over these years of scams??? If government or literally the parties has the supreme power of control how does the people expect truth to be revealed in a Democratic country...Go India...Go...
the very fact is that congress become deep neck in corruption..people have given mandate to rule the country not to loot the public wealth..Bjp has every right to disrupt parliament otherwise congress will get away again like commonwealth game 2g n adarsh housing scam..now PM should resign..go for general election..let the verdict comes from peoples court. otherwise india will be in a policy paralysis and there will be economic mess.
If India has to emerge as a strong nation, both politically and economically, there
should be two national parties functioning based on well-defined principles
without any communal overtone. The Opposition party can play an effective role
and offer constructive suggestions during the course of the debates to which the
ruling party should pay serious attention. PM Nehru never missed a day while
parliament was in session and listened to the Opposition particularly when leaders
like Dr Shyama Prasad Mukerjee was the speaker with rapt attention, taking notes
for reply. Nowadays we witness the unfortunate trend of regional parties having a
major say in the Government functioning in return for their support resulting in
various scams and this is the price one has to pay for coalition politics based not
on principles but sheer opportunism. The sooner we go back to bi-partisan
politics based on sound principles the better for the nation.
Having met leaders of both major parties one has to say that the most class conscious,
pompous and pretentious leaders are in BJP. Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi once told a BBC
journalist : " Do you know you are talking to a minister? Do you know my stature?" BJP
is at least as corrupt as Congress. Indians have a choice between the Devil and the
Deep and Dark Blue Sea!
National interest and economic development of India demand that India
has good governance: transparency, rule of law and accountability – all
three, one cannot pick & mix!
Good governance cannot be selectively applied to one part of India and
not to another, one political party and not to another!
ALL Coalgate scam Licences must be revoked, and auctioned according to
national current & future need, and sound management of ‘non-renewable
energy sources’. The Govt is also accountable to the unborn citizens of
India.
THE NATION MUST COME BEFORE THE PARTY. NATIONAL INTEREST MUST COME
BEFORE PERSONAL/FAMILY GAIN.
The behaviour of both Congress and BJP is disappointing. The people of
India own this land, its wealth, its mountain, its forests for their
living along with other creatures. In order to lead an orderly,
civilized life, proper share of the wealth and prosperity, a
government is needed to regulate things with peoples' mandate. Since
it is a democracy an opposition party is also needed as an alternate
to the ruling party. But unfortunately, both of them think that India
as nation exists only for the purpose of these two to practice
politics. This may seem to be ridiculous but that is the fact. The
government formulates and pursues some policy without peoples'
concurrence but the outcome of the blunder is squarely divided and
distributed among the people of India. When Indra (of Devlok) killed
Vrithasura he was affected by "Dosha". He promptly divided and
distributed to four categories of creatures including women on earth.
In the same way GOI distributes the fruits of its blunder to all.
Top leaders like Advani, Sushma, and like others should quit the party and join the Congress, as the congress lacks vain talkative leaders in their side.BJP should try to form a National Government of all National parties.all state parties are like shylak of Shakespearean story.Especially leaders like Sushma weaken the party.Since Sonia is away from india for a while, sushma obliged her to two purposes,
1.Proving that the Sountry still remain strong and loyal to Sonia is out.
2.Averted the confrontation in the parliament during Sonia~ absent
The BJP is not doing their best as an effective and strong oppositon BJP capable to replace the congress.
3.Sushma swamraj inviation To Sri lankan President, on behalf of India for sept 21 event weakened the position of the BJP in Tamilnadu.
They are driven to the position of congress in the state.
The only way forward for the BJP is for all its top leaders to
resign and give way to new generation leaders like Narendra Modi or
Nitish Kumar.
People's mandate is already clear about the BJP's current
leadership and policies even then the top leadership cannot leave
their dream of getting power.
Nationalist agenda is the only hope for the BJP and it should stop
taking up such methods.
