The Union Home Ministry has asked for more inputs from the Central Bureau of Investigation on the evidence against former Intelligence Bureau Special Director Rajendra Kumar and three other intelligence officials in connection with the pending proposal for their prosecution in the Ishrat Jahan “fake” encounter killing case.

The agency has already provided copies of the case record in support of the proposal to prosecute Mr. Kumar and the three other officials, M.K. Sinha, P. Mittal and Rajiv Wankhede, stating that it has collected sufficient prosecutable evidence against them.

However, the Home Ministry has asked for more information given that it is a “very sensitive” issue and that prosecution sanction can be granted only after the competent authority looks into all aspects of the case.

The Home Ministry had earlier sought the case file, on which the agency had reservations.
