The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered a probe into the allegations levelled by the Delhi gang-rape victim’s friend that the police failed to respond promptly to the distress call about the December 16, 2012 incident.

A Joint Secretary-level officer will look into the veracity of the claims made by the software engineer that instead of shifting the badly injured girl to a nearby hospital, cops in the PCR vans that arrived at the spot where the duo was dumped argued over the jurisdiction of the case.

Moreover, the injured techie alleged, the police were hesitant to lift and put the 23-year-old paramedical student in a PCR van, thus losing crucial time.

The probe would also cover the police’s claim that they acted swiftly as soon as they received a call about the incident, said a senior MHA official.
