Holi fracas leaves 20 injured in Tripura tea estate

Twenty people were injured, some critically, in a Holi brawl at a tea estate in Kailashahar, north Tripura, on Thursday afternoon.

Police said two groups of workers, armed with sharp weapons and iron rods, clashed at Ravan Tilla in the Manu Valley Tea Estate at 4 p.m. “We have information that 20 persons, including four women, sustained injuries,” duty officer of Kailashahar police station Buddha Debbarma said over the phone adding some elements tried to settle an old enmity taking advantage of the Holi festival.

“Senior police officers have visited the spot.”

The injured were admitted in the Unakoti district government hospital at Kailashahar. Security personnel have been deployed in the tea estate.
