Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Sunday refused to comment on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that India was a Hindu Rashtra.

In an exclusive interview to The Hindu the BJP president said: “You can ask as many times as you want. But I will not comment on Mohan Raoji's statement.”

Explaining the BJP’s position on talks with Pakistan, Mr. Shah said it was for the government to decide whether to talk or not.

Pak. should talk to us

Reminded that Pakistan had earlier talked to Kashmiri separatists, and asked why the Modi government objected to it, Mr. Shah said, “It is our government’s stand that Pakistan should talk to India. [Earlier] our government was not in power.”
