The by-elections for one Lok Sabha seat and in 26 Assembly constituencies in eight States passed off peacefully on Tuesday, barring a few incidents of stone-throwing and clashes especially in Rayalaseema of Andhra Pradesh.
In Andhra Pradesh, 70 per cent of the electorate voted in the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency and 80 per cent in 18 Assembly constituencies.
Poor polling in Hatia
Polling was poor in Jharkhand's Hatia, a mere 38 per cent. At Nalchar (SC) in Tripura, the turnout was as high as 89 per cent.
72% in Maheshwar
Maheshwar (SC) in Madhya Pradesh recorded 72 per cent of polling, followed by Daspur and Bankura in West Bengal and Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu with 70 per cent. Mant in Uttar Pradesh recorded 60 per cent and Kaij (SC) in Maharashtra 58 per cent. The votes will be counted on June 15.
This is the first set of elections held under the supervision of the new Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath, who assumed office on Monday.






Election commission should ensure this kind of polls in near future and make people proud of their system. media should focus more on this kind of burning issue so as to nullify the anti social elements out of the world
