Heat wave conditions persisted over several parts of the country with over 40 degree Celsius recorded at most places in west Rajasthan, Telangana, east Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Jharkhand.
Significant bursts in the mercury were also recorded at Chhattisgarh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Scorching conditions were also registered in Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. According to the IMD, heat wave conditions were likely to persist over west Rajasthan, Jharkhand and interior Odisha until Saturday evening.
Thunderstorms are likely to take the heat off Delhi — that has seen severe heat wave conditions at nearly 45 degree Celsius — and several parts of north India over the weekend.
According to Skymet Weather, a private forecaster, this was because hot northerly winds have been reaching the national capital from Rajasthan. A Western Disturbance had induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab.
“True to their nature, these activities will occur during the late afternoon or evening hours and by then, day maximum will already peak. However, a slight drop is likely in the mercury during the next 48 hours,” said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet.
