A Health Ministry team today inspected a medical college and hospital here and scoured their records in connection with the alleged Rs. 2 crore bribe paid to MCI chief Ketan Desai for getting sanction to enrol students.
The members, who were accompanied by officials of Punjab government, checked the records of Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital in Ramnagar—Banur, sources said.
Besides they videographed and photographed the premises, they said.
Media persons were not allowed to enter the hospital premises by college authorities.
As many as 300 students are currently studying in the college.
Medical Council of India chief Desai was arrested along with three others for allegedly receiving Rs. 2 crore from the college for getting sanction to enrol students for year 2010-11.
Taking a serious view of alleged corruption in Medical Council of India, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had on April 25 set up a three-member fact finding team to look into the allegations.
The committee headed by Additional Secretary K. Desiraju was asked to submit its report within a week, pending which permission to the medical college to take new batch of students was kept in abeyance.
