President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday called for propagating Swami Vivekananda’s teachings worldwide with the full realisation of the impact they have on the people of India.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Quoting A.L. Basham, renowned British historian who said “in centuries to come, he [Swami Vivekananda] will be remembered as one of the main moulders of the modern world,” the President said Swami Vivekananda had a deep commitment to the poor. His teachings are true not only to the time he lived but also to the present day India.
