The Bombay High Court on Monday stayed an order of the sessions court issued last week that restrained Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar from functioning as president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The stay has been granted until December 17.
The sessions court had also given a weekto Mr. Pawar to appeal to the High Court. His lawyers appealed to the High Court on Monday to extend the stay as it was ending the following day. Pending admission of the appeal, the court extended the stay until December 17.“The appeal will now be heard on December 13,” said Vivekanand Gupta, counsel for BJP leader Gopinath Munde, who filed a case against the election procedure, which resulted in Mr. Pawar becoming president of the Association.
Mr. Munde approached the court after the MCA rejected his nomination to contest for the president’s post in the MCA’s biennial polls in October.
