Notwithstanding the absence of Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi in the city, activists of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement staged a demonstration outside his residence last night, chanting bhajans for over half an hour.

The demonstration was in response to the call given by ‘India Against Corruption’ asking its activists to stage protests in front of the houses of MPs in their respective cities to highlight the ‘Jan Lokpal Bill’ issue, for which, the Gandhian is on an indefinite fast in Delhi.

About 150 volunteers, who assembled in front of ‘Kalmadi House’ along the Karve road in Kothrud area here, sang bhajans like ‘Raghupati raghav rajaram’ to the tune of musical instruments, even as police maintained a strict vigil around the place.

A spokesman of the demonstrators said the protest was symbolic as the scam-tainted MP is lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi, facing trial for alleged corruption in the conduct of the CWG games.
