The former Minister of State for External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor, feels Team Anna should allow MPs to use their discretion in framing the Jan Lokpal Bill instead of adopting a rigid stand on the issue.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an award ceremony at the National Institute of Design (NID) here on Sunday, the Thiruvananthapuram MP said that after all the MPs had been elected by the people to “do their work.” They must be allowed to use their judgment to “do the people's work to the best of their abilities.”

Mr. Tharoor said he had high regard for social activist Anna Hazare, whose move to shake the conscience of the people against corruption was highly appreciable. “But if he adopts a very rigid stand regarding the form of the Jan Lokpal Bill it can create problems.”

The Congress MP believed that all the points raised by Team Anna for inclusion in the Jan Lokpal Bill did not conform to the Constitution and the MPs could not adopt a measure that could violate the Constitution.
