Burglars struck at the house of Harish Khare, media adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in the Civil Lines here in the early hours of Wednesday. They stole a mobile and drove away in his car which had security stickers.

The incident took place on a day when the Prime Minister had invited some newspaper editors for an interaction.

A complaint was lodged with the police soon after the theft was detected. The burglars had apparently struck between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

“A team has been formed to identify those involved [in the crime] and recover the vehicle and the stolen articles. A crime team was also sent to the spot to gather forensic evidence,” a police officer said. It is learnt that the police have zeroed in on some youths living in a nearby jhuggi cluster, and a hunt has been launched.
