With the number of H1N1 cases on the rise, the Centre has decided to vaccinate health workers involved in the treatment of patients. The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting of health officials here on Wednesday.
There has been a spurt in cases of swine flu and as per the Health Ministry figures, between January 1 and February 10.
The total number of cases is 5,157 and the number of deaths 407.
Guidelines are now being drafted for vaccination of healthcare workers and these will be shared with the States for dissemination to all health institutions, Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said in a statement. The vaccination will be in addition to the personal protective measures being followed at the hospitals.
The bulk of H1N1 cases are being reported from Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
