Terming the Guwahati molestation incident as “shameful”, BJP on Friday demanded immediate action against the perpetrators of the crime that took place in full public glare.
BJP also hit out at the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam for not initiating prompt action in the incident, resulting in a few of the accused still remaining absconding.
“It is a shameful incident...The BJP demands that immediate action be taken and the perpetrators of that violence go through a speedy trial and punishment is given to them,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
Taking the opportunity to hit out at the general law and order situation in the country, she said crime against women was increasing everywhere.
“Not just in Assam. Everywhere we are repeatedly coming across situations where women are being beaten up in public by unlawful elements and those people are not very quickly brought to justice,” she said.
A total of four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident in front of a bar on the Guwahati-Shillong Road on Monday night, which led to a public outcry after a video of the shocking incident was uploaded on video-sharing website YouTube.
Police action was initiated after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint. All the accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mr Reddy your advice to BJP is equally uncalled for. your comments and suggestions for remedial and preventive actions are required.We all know political parties jump in at the slightest opportunity for publicity. I strongly feel these hooligans ,as seen in the live video, must me brought to book at the earliest. There is no question of long drawn wasteful investigations by the police whose chief has given rediculous statement. One can attribute so many things about the girl but still there is no justification for outraging her modesty in public by anyone. We are watching unbecoming behaviour/actions of people in power (politicians,bureaucrats,their siblings/relatives and rich people) who are committing offence and still get away with weakened prosecution effort . What have you to suggest for this ?
The BJP should know that instant results could not be expected in
such cases in the absence of a thorough probe into the matter,that
cannot be done over night. Instead of making a hue and cry over
such incidents repeatedly,it would do well for the BJP to come out
with remedial measures,to ensure taking appropriate measures to
avoid recurrence of such incidents.So,better for the BJP not to
fish in the troubled waters,instead offer suggestion to over come
such incidents.
