Gujarat model an invention, says Chidambaram

March 04, 2013 12:23 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:51 pm IST - New Delhi:

“I don’t think there is anything like Gujarat model. It is another invention,” Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram told PTI in an interview on Sunday.

Mr. Chidambaram said each State implemented certain economic policies consistent with its requirement. “Sometimes you get good result, sometimes you get poor result. I don’t think we should describe it as Gujarat model or X model or Y model.”

It had been pointed out that there was malnutrition and huge deficiencies in gender welfare and in the status of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Gujarat. “Perhaps the State will address them. I am sure Gujarat like any other State has pluses and minuses. If there are minuses then I am sure Gujarat will address those minuses. But I am not denying that Gujarat has developed in many areas.”
