The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday denied bail to Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Babu Bajrangi, convicted in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riots case.

Bajrangi’s wife Meena Patel moved the petition on his behalf and appeared as the party-in-person seeking temporary bail for her husband to attend to their son, hospitalised for chest pain.

Justice G.R Udhwani rejected the application on the ground that “no case is made out for a temporary” based on the doctor’s statement.

“Addition Public Prosecutor placed on record the statement of the patient and the doctor treating him [Bajrangi’s son] on record wherein the doctor has in uncertain terms certified that the condition of the patient is not as serious as would require operation and that he is now in good condition,” the court stated in its order.

In August, the High Court had granted him temporary bail to Bajrangi for eye treatment.
