The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad was on Saturday granted the custody of Abu Jundal, alleged handler of the terrorists who carried out the 2008 Mumbai attacks, after the National Investigation Agency told another court that it did not require him for further interrogation.
His custody to the Gujarat ATS till October 31 was granted by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Prakash in connection with the 2006 Karnawati Express blast at the Ahmedabad station in which he is allegedly a main conspirator.
The court sought the Tihar Jail authorities’ assistance in ensuring that Jundal is safely taken to Gujarat on a plane.
Earlier, Additional Sessions Judge Talwant Singh sent Jundal to judicial custody till November 3 after the NIA custody period expired.
The NIA had sought his custody to unearth a Lashkar-e-Taiba conspiracy to carry out terror strikes across the country.
