The NDA government is set to present six crucial Bills for approval in the Lok Sabha this week to replace the Ordinances passed during the inter-session period.
The most talked about Bill relates to the Ordinance on amending the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, was introduced in the Lok Sabha last week but has not yet come up for consideration and passage. The Opposition parties are seeking to refer the Bill to a Standing Committee. The government is under pressure not only from the Opposition parties but the RSS affiliates as well to bring amendments to the proposed law.
Last week the Opposition parties got together in the Rajya Sabha to scuttle the government’s move to withdraw earlier Bills on allocation of coal mines, FDI in insurance and e-rickshaws. Finally Leader of the House Arun Jaitley agreed to defer the motions.
The Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015, and Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2015, have been listed for introduction in the Lower House on Monday, while the Bill to replace Insurance Laws (Amendment) Ordinance is coming up for introduction in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2015, is also listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The government’s anxiety stems from the fact that all the Ordinances must be replaced by Acts of Parliament by April 5, while the House is scheduled to take a month-long break from March 21.
