Governor’s rule unavoidable to restore normalcy: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference (NC) President and Member of Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said imposition of Governor’s rule and suspending the Legislative Assembly was unavoidable to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Accusing the PDP-BJP alliance of being “bereft of a political agenda”, he said the coalition was forged “with the singular purpose of attaining power.”

“The so-called Agenda of the Alliance has been torn to shreds by the BJP. The PDP has given a discreet burial to the same after Mufti (Muhammad Sayeed) passed away,” Dr. Abdulllah said. In present circumstances, Dr. Abdullah said, imposition of the Governor’s rule “is the only plausible option.”

“This is for the first time in almost three decades that an election had to be cancelled and we are down from a 26% turnout to a 7% turnout,” he added.

Talk to stakeholders’

He called for an “open-ended, unconditional’ dialogue with Pakistan and stakeholders in Kashmir.”

“New Delhi has to talk to Islamabad and initiate talks with various stakeholders in Kashmir without any restrictions and conditions. The sooner New Delhi does this, the better it is for the State and the entire region,” the NC leader said.
