Accusing the government of adopting an ‘insensitive and complacent attitude’ towards the severe drought-like situation in the country, the BJP has announced a protest week from August 3 to goad the UPA regime into action.
Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh told journalists here on Thursday that the country-wide protests would culminate in a farmers’ rally at Jantar Mantar on August 20.
He contended that the situation arising out of the monsoon deficiency of 23 per cent has become complicated in recent days for people in general and farmers in particular due to the ‘inadequate’ response from Centre.
Mr. Singh charged that the implementation of drought relief measures had taken a hit due to the internal strife for power among coalition partners. He was referring to the feud between the NCP and the Congress because of which Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar stayed away from office for a week.
