A Block Medical Officer in Pulwama district and wife of a separatist leader, filed a complaint of sexual assault against the senior Congress leader and Health Minister, Shabir Ahmad Khan, on Thursday.
Informed sources said she alleged in the complaint filed at a police station that Mr. Khan had sexually assaulted her in a private room of his office at the Civil Secretariat here last week.
Detailed account Sources told The Hindu that she gave a detailed account of how the Minister called her to the Secretariat by telephone and assaulted her.
The Minister’s special assistant called her for a “meeting,” and told her that Mr. Khan wanted to share the decisions taken about a health programme in the Pampore area.
She told him that the matter could be discussed either with the Director of Health Services or the Chief Medical Officer of Pulwama district. But the special assistant insisted that she attend the “meeting,” the complaint said.
Call details She gave details of the calls allegedly made to her repeatedly from the Minister’s office and how he made objectionable advances towards her and held her physically.
However, there was no witness to the “molestation.”
Sources said that after being convinced about the contents of the complaint, the police registered a first information report. Mr. Khan, who is in Jammu, was not available for comment.
His phone was switched off. A senior police official said the Minister could be arrested.
