Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has declared that Goa will be made "garbage-free" by December 19, 2015, the next anniversary of Goa Liberation Day. Addressing freedom fighters and people at the annual Goa Revolution Day function at the Azad Maidan in the city on Wednesday, Mr. Parrikar sought the cooperation and active participation of freedom fighters and people in this endeavour.
Making a particular reference to the unwarranted use of plastic in day-to-day life by people, Mr. Parrikar urged people to refrain from such use of plastic, including carry bags for their short-term-uses as plastic litter leads to degradation of environment and ecology which are particularly sensitive in this tiny coastal tourist State.
Responding to a plea by head of freedom fighters’ body that senior citizens were facing cumbersome bureaucratic procedures in getting the government services, Mr. Parrikar announced that a special officer will be deputed by his government by end this month to simplify procedures for implementation of all public services.
Earlier, along with Governor B. V. Wanchoo and Union Minister of State for Tourism and Cultre Sripad Naik, Chief Minister Parrikar paid floral tributes to the memory of Goan freedom fighters at the Martyrs’ memorial at the Azad Maidan.
