Goa Minister questioned for nine hours

June 05, 2010 12:07 am | Updated November 09, 2016 02:41 pm IST - PANAJI:

The Crime Branch of the Goa police on Friday quizzed Tourism Minister Micky Pacheco for nine hours in connection with the unnatural death of Nadia Torrado.

Twenty-eight-year-old Torrado died in a Chennai hospital last week. She was treated there for consumption of poison.

The Minister was known to be a close friend of the deceased.

Mr. Pacheco declined to comment about his interrogation.

Torrado's husband and family members were also called by the Crime Branch on Friday to record their statements.

While Mr. Pacheco has asked for a judicial probe into the case, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded probe by the CBI or an IPS officer.

Accusing him of being responsible for the death, women's organisations have demanded that the Minister be sacked to pave the way for an impartial probe.
