BJP candidate from the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency Giriraj Singh on Sunday said he stood by his statement that those opposing Narendra Modi had no place in the country and had to go to Pakistan.
When contacted, Mr. Singh told The Hindu that he did not hold talks with party president Rajnath Singh and was, therefore, not aware of reports that he was asked to refrain from issuing such statements. “It is quite possible that he [Rajnath] telephoned my Patna residence. I’m in Bhagalpur as of now,” Mr. Giriraj Singh said.
Mr. Giriraj Singh said he would reply to the Election Commission if he received a notice.
He said superpowers and Pakistan were out to stop Mr. Modi from becoming Prime Minister. Opposition in a democracy was welcome but pro-Pakistan and pro-terrorism forces had no place in the country, Mr. Giriraj Singh said.
