Prime Minister Narendra Modi told BJP general secretaries on Saturday to maintain the momentum achieved during the Lok Sabha campaign and prepare for the Assembly elections in the next two years.
Assembly elections are due later this year in Maharashtra and Haryana. Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar will go to the polls in 2015.
The attempt, according to observers, is to ensure that the massive victory of the party does not lead to complacency and weakening of the party.
Party general secretary Varun Gandhi tweeted that he was “inspired by (the) motivational message” from the PM “to serve party and nation with renewed vigour.”
Mr. Modi’s engagement with the office-bearers will keep them on their toes even as he receives feedback on various aspects of governance, one of them said. Mr. Modi told the party leaders to ensure that workers did not feel neglected.
A new president has to be elected as the incumbent, Rajnath Singh, has been made the Home Minister. Three vice-presidents Jual Ornam, Uma Bharti and Smriti Irani and three general secretaries Ananth Kumar, Thawarchand Gehlot and Dharmendra Pradhan also have moved to the government, necessitating an overhaul of the party.
