The Chief of the Army Staff, General V.K. Singh, has over eight more months of service left as his date of birth has been maintained as May 10, 1950, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said on Wednesday.
In his first official comment on the controversy, the Minister told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that the date was maintained on three occasions when the General was promoted. “At the time of selection as Corps Commander in 2006 as well as promotions as Army Commander in 2008 and Chief of Army Staff in 2010. Accordingly, he is left with 8 months and 23 days of service as on date.”
However, the Minister said, a different date of birth was mentioned in certain documents and the Army Chief had filed a statutory complaint in the matter.
