Hard-line Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday said that he was saddened by the verdict of the Allahabad High Court on the Babri Masjid title suits.
“It is not tolerable and it has hurt the sentiments of Muslims,” he said without elaborating. He asked the people to follow the programmes of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
Moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the verdict was “disappointing” and “it is politically motivated.”
“Though the court accepted that the temple was not demolished when Babri Masjid was built, in 1992 the Masjid was demolished by Hindu fundamentalists and this time around these forces have influenced the decision of the court as well,” he added. The Mirwaiz termed one-third of the land being given to Muslims as appeasement.
Kashmir's Grand Mufti, Mohammad Bashiruddin, suggested that the Waqf Board should move the Supreme Court against this verdict.
