Deterioration in the condition of the 23-year-old girl who was gang-raped in a bus forced doctors at Safdarjung Hospital here to put her back on ventilator and also conduct an emergency operation on Sunday morning.
Giving details about her health condition at a press conference, Medical Superintendent B.D. Athani said: “The patient complained of pain and discomfort in the abdomen and she was rushed for an ultrasound and a CT scan. Fluid collection was detected in her abdomen following which a small emergency operation was performed. The patient continues to be critical and is being monitored in the intensive care unit. We need to watch her for the next few days to be able to say anything decisive about the condition of her health.”
Asserting that infection continues to be a serious concern, Dr. Athani said: “Today the patient has high grade fever and her liver function has registered deterioration. The patient continues to be critical but is conscious, alert and communicative. We opted to put her back on ventilator as we thought that this will improve her condition.”
The vital parameters of the patient, including blood pressure, heart rate and urine output, are stable. “However, the danger of infection spreading in her body continues,” he added.
