The charge-sheet in the gang-rape of the 23-year-old physiotherapy student in a moving bus would be filed next week, according to a senior police official.
“We are going to file the charge-sheet either on Monday or Tuesday next week,” he added.
Akshay Singh, an accused in the case who had been sent to judicial custody earlier, was produced in a city court on Thursday which sent him to police custody for two days. The police said his custody was sought as some more recoveries had to be made in the case.
Singh, however, has refused a Test Identification Parade in the robbery case of Ramadhar Singh, who was allegedly robbed and dumped by the gang-rape accused on the same day.
All six accused in the case have been arrested and the statements of the victim and her male friend, who was also assaulted inside the bus, have been recorded.
The girl’s statement had to be recorded before a Judicial Magistrate, under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, after allegations of having attempted to influence a Sub-Divisional Magistrate while recording the statement had been levelled against the police.
The licence of Dinesh Yadav — a Noida-based travel operator who owned the contract carriage bus inside which the heinous crime was committed by the six accused, including the driver Ram Singh — had been suspended in the aftermath of the crime. However, it is now learnt that in the past, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) had complained to the transport department against Mr. Yadav.
“The DTC, in its complaint had said that Mr. Yadav had deployed musclemen to stop other buses from plying on some routes in which his own buses were ferrying passengers. These musclemen intimidated the staff of the DTC buses,” said a police source.
The source added that Mr. Yadav had been operating a few buses on Route No. 323 and his buses had to compete with DTC buses for passengers, which led to the alleged threats issued to the DTC staff members.
Asked whether the DTC had made any complaints to the police, the source said the complaint had to be made through the transport department which had not intimated them. He added that Mr. Yadav had received permits to run contract carriage buses using fake addresses.
