Fraudulent SIMs to be seized

September 23, 2010 11:20 pm | Updated 11:20 pm IST - Mumbai:

Maharashtra Home Minister R. R. Patil said here on Thursday that SIM cards obtained under fraudulent identities or fake documents would be seized, and service companies would have to face investigations if found to be flouting rules.

Mr. Patil's comments came in response to questions regarding the e-mail sent after the Jama Masjid firing, which was allegedly traced to a SIM card in Mumbai. “Probe into fake SIM cards is already on. Those obtained using fraudulent documents will be seized. Service providers should conduct proper verification, else they would also have to face investigation,” Mr. Patil said.
