Fourth batch of pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Amid tight security arrangements, the fourth batch of 2,303 pilgrims on Friday left Jammu base camp for 13500-feet high cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas.

As many as 2,303 pilgrims comprising of 1,438 males, 468 females, 94 children and 304 sadhus left in a cavalcade of 81 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0525 hours this morning for Amarnath, police said.

Escorted by the mobile security of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the yatra convoy has already crossed Kud area in Udhampur district, they said.

With today’s batch, as many as 8,747 pilgrims have left Jammu for their onward journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath.

“Yatra is going on smoothly,” police said.

Over 37,000 pilgrims have had darshan of the holy ice Lingun of Lord Shiva at the cave shrine of Amarnath till last night.

Over 9,000 fresh pilgrims have arrived in Jammu from various parts of country for their onward journey to the cave shrine.
