Suspected militants of National Democratic Front of Boroland (Ranjan Daimary faction) ambushed a patrol party of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB), killing four SSB personnel, including an assistant commandant and injuring two others near India-Bhutan border in lower Assam's Chirang district on Monday.
The NDFB (Ranjan Daimary) militants showered heavy fire on SSB patrol party between 12.45 pm and 1 p.m, police said. The incident site is located along the border line that demarcates Manas National Park in India and Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan.
One SSB personnel managed to escape and report the incident to his company commander.
The deceased include assistant commandant Kishor Kunal, sub-inspector Pratap Singh, constable Amit Kumar Tiwari and driver H. Sherpa. The SSB personnel were on border guarding duty. The SSB has been entrusted the task of guarding the 265 km long India-Bhutan border in Assam.
