Ever since Badar Azim, the former royal footman, returned home to Kolkata three days ago following his stint at Buckingham Palace, he is hounded by the media — so much so that his doors seem to have been shut to it.
Journalists have been camping in front of his house in Phoolbagan bustee in the Beniapukur area of the city hours on end, cameras pointing towards his house, lens focused on the door, waiting for him to emerge. Not just he and his family but his neighbours are also unhappy with the “intrusion.”
“He is very upset and so are we, with a section of the local, national and international media who have been preying on him after he spoke to a national television channel,” Mohd. Rabbani, a neighbour of the Azim family, told The Hindu on Friday.
Mr. Azim had told the channel during a brief interaction on Wednesday that he was willing to return and work with the royal household. It would “be a privilege” to do so if granted a new visa.
“It was amazing for me to announce the [birth of the] royal baby” he had said.
Mr. Azim shot to fame when assigned the task of putting up an easel in the foreground of Buckingham Palace on July 22 a ceremonial announcement of the birth of Prince George. He returned here when his visa expired six days later.
