Balram Jakhar passes away

Former Lok Sabha Speaker and veteran Congress leader Balram Jakhar passed away on Wednesday here at the age of 92.

President Pranab Mukherjee, in a condolence message to the veteran’s son, Sunil Jakhar, said: “I am sad to learn about the passing away of your father, Dr. Balram Jakhar, an esteemed colleague and a dear friend of long years. The nation will always remember his valuable contributions and pursuit of excellence in public life.”

“Balram Jakhar ji was a popular leader who enriched our parliamentary democracy in his long political journey. Saddened by his demise,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi said: “The Congress and the nation will forever remember his contributions, particularly to the cause of farming community.”
