Former IAF chief passes away

The former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Dennis A. La Fontaine, passed away here at Brahmanapally village in Toopran mandal, about 60 km from Hyderabad, early Wednesday. He was 84, and is survived by wife and three children.

The last rites were performed at his farm house. Collector S. Suresh Kumar, Superintendent of Police A. Sunder Kumar Das and senior officials of the Air Force visited the residence of Air Chief Marshal Fontaine and paid tributes to him.

After retiring as Air Chief in 1987, Air Chief Marshal Fontaine, a native of Tamil Nadu, purchased a farm house at Brahmanapally and settled down there along with a friend Krishna Reddy. According to sources, he had donated his assets to a Christian charity.
