Foreign, Home Secretaries meet

July 23, 2010 02:23 am | Updated 02:23 am IST - New Delhi

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao met Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai at his North Block office on Thursday. Though the agenda is not known, the meeting assumes significance in the context of the perception that there is a lack of coordination between the External Affairs and Home Ministries on the David Coleman Headley issue.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has criticised Mr. Pillai for the timing of his remarks on what Indian investigators had learned from their interrogation of Lashkar terrorist Headley in Chicago last month. Pakistan objected to the Home Secretary accusing the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate of organising the November 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai while the United States is also believed to be unhappy at what it says are Indian violations of an agreement to keep Headley's disclosures confidential for the time being.

MEA officials say the MHA has kept them in the dark about Headley's testimony even as North Block 'sources' have regularly leaked details to the media.
