The Food Security Bill, could not be taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The House was repeatedly adjourned as the Opposition demanded the Prime Minister’s statement on the missing of the coal blocks allocation files. Frantic attempts by floor managers failed to convince the Opposition to allow the House to function. The government and the Congress had slated the Bill for passage at least in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, to coincide with the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has been pushing for granting legal entitlement on food security to the poor, was expected to speak on the Bill.
