Five persons, including two employees of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Defence Ministry, have been arrested for allegedly molesting and attempting to abduct a 24-year-old woman in their car at Bawana in Outer Delhi on the night of December 31.
The incident took place when the victim was in her house and her husband and parents-in-law were away at work in the nearby fields. It is alleged that the five accused who were in an inebriated state reached there in a car and on spotting the woman alone in the jhuggi , forced their way in and dragged her out. The accused were trying to push her into the vehicle when she raised an alarm.
Hearing her screams, her in-laws and other residents of the area rushed to help. They confronted the men and overpowered them. The accused were handed over to the police. They said they belonged to Sonepat in Haryana. Basant told the police that he worked with the DRI, whereas Gopal is a multitasking staffer with the Defence Ministry.
Based on a complaint, the police arrested the five accused on charges of house trespass, physical assault, molestation and attempted kidnapping. The accused were sent to judicial custody on Tuesday.
