The Supreme Court on Tuesday posted for final hearing on September 10 a batch of petitions filed by newspaper managements challenging the Justice Majithia wage board recommendations for journalists and non-journalists.

A new Bench of Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justices Ranjana Desai and Ranjan Gogoi posted the matter for final hearing after senior counsel K.K. Venugopal, appearing for the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), submitted that it would require at least four weeks for completion of the hearing.

Counsel for the employees B.K. Pal and Parmanand Pandey drew the attention of the court to the fact that journalists were waiting for more than 12 years for this wage board, and pleaded that the hearing should be expedited.
